Hi Everyone, im looking to purchase a G5. I'd like to pick up one of the later machines. Does anyone have one they're looking to sell?

Let me know. Thanks,

Matt

Looks like a great machine! I wonder how it would compare to one of the new Imacs though at the same price.

I have a G5 tower, twin 1.8 processors, 1.5 GB ram, 2 harddisks.  Haven't used it for a couple of years, so I'm thinking of selling it.  It has a lot of software on it.  Not sure what it's worth, but I don't want to sell it for peanuts.

Hi Dave, i didn't realize this thread was still up. I was originally looking for a G5 in order to build a server for our business, but i've gone the route of hackintosh and saved lots of money with the build.

Not only did you save some money for your business, but the box has a future. The PowerPC architecture now depends on hackers willing to create unofficial Linux distributions... and on IBM.

Yeah. The Apple decision to Intel sure looks like a no-brainer from our perspective at the end of 2009! In 2005 when Apple announced the move to Intel, it was a bold gamble. And an amazing behind-the-scenes story, as Apple revealed in 2005 that it had been maintaining a secret, parallel Intel-build of OS X, since OS X 10.0, just in case.

For sure. The PowerPC architecture is now well behind. We ended up building a Quad Core Xeon Hack. Its fantastic.

Matt, would you be willing to post the specs of your computer in the General Discussion forum? Not to promote what you have done, of course. I am just curious to know how the components compare, as a consumer.

paradisal

Hi Z-Mac the specs have been posted.
