Plume, this should work. Have you tried it?

This means you are using OS X 10.5.x ("Leopard"). Download this version of Safari:

Good Evening z-mac

Thank you, thank you, for your interest and help.

I think you will need to install Safari from your installation disc (DVD).

Good Evening to all of the people whom as tried to help me, thank you and thank you again
You have no idea how i appreciate your feed back.
I have been told that Safari is the better of the Following and i quote.
(Netscape,Firefox Camino and others that i do not know of.
As Safari gotten so sophisticated that they can pick and choose,i remember when Netscape was in that situation but they never refused anyone.
They will somewhere in the not to far future wish that they had made things differently,
time will help.
I have been contacted by an individual who reads the help that people are asking for
and as read my plea.
He tells me that he is able to hook me up with Safari, and i might take him up on it.
I am so upset that, it makes me feel as if i'm begging for the use of Safari.
Mind you there are a lot of people who claims that Safari is the best and maybe so.
I want to thank you so very much for your contribution in the help that you have given me.
                                                      Have a very good night
And if any of you are married please take the time to give her a COMPLIMENT and a HUG
                                                          They are precious

Agreed. The question is how to best advise Plume so that all that is re-installed on his PPC Mac is Safari.app, and that nothing important in the rest of his OS X installation is over-written.

I am also surprised that Safari 4.0.5 from here did not work: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL877  –– it could be the OS X 10.5 PPC versions are no longer readily available. Not sure if this is PPC-compatible but there is also: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari4/061-7781.20100311.Sfr45/Safari4.0.5Leopard.dmg

Lesson to be Shared
Please exercise EXTREME CAUTION in deleting any applications provided as part of the OS X installation by Apple. It's usually a BAD IDEA. You don't have to use them. Just don't delete them. AND CATEGORICALLY NEVER DELETE SAFARI OFF YOUR MAC.

This nuance about not deleting 'applications provided as part of the OS X installation' would have been unimportant if all that got deleted on Plume's mac were some 3rd-party browsers –– it's trivial to re-download and re-install any of those, should Plume's needs change. But as can be seen, it's not trivial to re-install Safari, because Apple doesn't anticipate anyone will actually delete it!

Good Morning Ben
I could not have stated any better.
I did try the Download that you suggested and it still comes back and tells me that my System is not Compatible.
I have not given that easy.
As i stated there is one person whom as said that he can re-instate Safari.
At the moment i am using FireFox and it is working very well, except for the E-Mail.
I will keep trying to get Safari, i will accept any other help, but now it is a matter of curiosity.

It's important to note that a user who has an Intel Mac will not need to worry about having trouble downloading and re-installing Safari.

Plume needs to install the Safari PKG file from the DVD because of Apple's nonsense in requiring a "machine-specific" build of the operating system and applications for the PowerPC era. This nonsense ended with the Abandonment Of PowerPC. (Hi Dan Millar!)

We can all agree that it should NOT be this hard to reinstall a Web browser! Plume's misfortune is to have invested in a PowerPC computer.

Plume, there is a useful program called "Pacifist". http://www.charlessoft.com/Pacifist.dmg
Install it.

Insert your installation DVD into the computer.

Open Pacifist -> Open Package -> Navigate to OS X DVD -> System/Installation/Packages/EssentialSystemSoftware.mpkg -> Click Open -> expand Essentials -> expand Applications -> Select Safari.app -> Click Install (at the top of the Pacifist window).

If you have trouble with these instructions, Plume, I volunteer to pull Safari out of my retail Leopard DVD and send you a download link by e-mail. Anyone else here could do the same.

Dan Millar

I caught that! However, Safari 4.0.5 is a universal app and installer, so that's NOT the problem - the installer would tell you if it was.

Maybe you already tried this, but you may be able to download the correct "abandoned" version from MacUpdate (stay away from their screensavers!) at the following link:

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari4/061-7781.20100311.Sfr45/Safari4.0.5Leopard.dmg

Can't duplicate your problem here, I am able to download and install a PPC version without conflict. Have you kept your Mac up-to-date with Software Updates? Safari will not install unless all the current Security Updates are in place...

Just a thought...

Happy Mac'ing,

Good Evening to all of You
My hat goes off to you Dan (You smart son-of-a-gun ) .
I'm not allowed to swear, but you where right, there was an update which i had not downloaded and
installed.
So i did that, i installed an update of iTune which i had not taken the time to install.
So i went ahead and did just that.
I then went to the website that you told me to go to.
And lo and behold i downloaded and attempted to install Safari and it worked.
I am now writing these comment with the Safari Browser.
A lesson learned  (Always install your updates ).
Thank you, Thank you again Dan.
I want to take this opportunity to apoligize to the Safari People,  and to forgive my stupidity.
But then again not knowing is really not stupid (I'm trying to make myself feel good. HA HA).
Do not forget to hug your better half
                                                               They are precious
And please enjoy everyday that you are well enough to enjoy it, for tomorrow it is to late.
Also not to forget your little ones

Excellent sleuthing, Dan! Not even a certain magical device would have helped me figure out the cause of that error message. (o:
