2 - Feature Presentation

Graham presented MailMaven, a new email client that integrates features from SmallCube Software's Mail Suite extensions  https://www.mailmaven.app/.  His presentation deck in pdf format is available below.

Graham provided an informative overview of MailMaven, highlighting its features such as smart mailboxes, tags, and encryption, as well as its support system and development status. He mentioned a special offer for MUGOO members, providing an extended free trial period. Wally expressed interest in MailMaven's smart folders and asked about editing search criteria for existing folders, which Graham confirmed is possible. Wally also inquired about backup capabilities for email messages, to which Graham suggested using Time Machine and exporting messages to a text file.

Email Storage and Archiving Solutions

The group discussed email storage and archiving, with Marc explaining that webmail messages are stored on servers rather than local machines, requiring explicit steps to download and archive them. Graham demonstrated MailMaven's archive function and its ability to identify phishing scams through email headers. The discussion covered spam filtering capabilities, with Marc and Graham explaining how MailMaven and other email clients can provide additional layers of protection beyond server-based filters.

3 - Group chat about Apple's "OS26" operating systems and AI

iOS 26.2 Troubleshooting with AI

Wally shared his experience with a problematic iOS 26.2 feature where the phone's ringer and vibration were being muted unexpectedly. Steve Lawrenson helped solve the issue using AI search, identifying that the "Attention Aware" feature was causing the problem. John Wilson echoed similar experiences with iOS 26 on his new Mac, finding helpful information online despite Apple's documentation being insufficient. Both participants highlighted the growing importance of AI in troubleshooting complex technical issues that traditional support channels cannot address.

Apple System Features and Challenges

The group discussed various features and issues with Apple's macOS and iOS systems, including a solution for a docking grid problem and a useful accessibility feature that allows window resizing with control key. Marc expressed satisfaction with Apple's recent partnership with Google for AI technology, noting that Apple has historically struggled with certain areas like mice design and iCloud functionality. The conversation also covered the new iPadOS 26 feature allowing multiple windows, though Marc raised concerns about its implementation affecting gaming performance and iPhone app compatibility.

Biometric ID and Travel Impact

The group discussed OS 26 and its features, with Marc explaining how to close a window by finding a small dot. They also talked about the impact of the U.S. government shutdown on Canadian winter vacations, noting a 41% decrease in ski resort season pass renewals from Canadians. Marc shared his experience crossing the U.S. border, mentioning new fingerprint and biometric scanning requirements. The conversation concluded with a discussion about enhanced driver's licenses and the potential for mandatory biometric identification in Canada in the coming years.

Charles mentioned a potential presentation on a system using three Macs with different operating systems, which Wally expressed interest in.

Next steps:

Charles: Prepare and sketch a diagram of the Mac system configuration with multiple OS versions for a future presentation, including how the hardware is connected, for screen sharing and discussion with the group.

Graham: Look into how MailMaven handles mail archives on a user's machine (e.g., whether there is a monolithic archive in the Apple Library Application Support folder or if mail is only on the server), and report back to the group.

Graham: Provide extended free trial codes for MailMaven to interested MUGOO members upon request.

Charles and Wally: Arrange to discuss further details about Charles' presentation on his multi-Mac, multi-OS system setup at an appropriate time after the meeting.
