Ladies and Gents, I'd like to have a second monitor but need an ADC to VGA adapter. Where could I get one in Ottawa?

I think these are hard to find, and expensive when found. It may be easier and cheaper to add a second video card.

Definitely cheaper to add a video card - the adapters, if you can find one, are usually in the +$150 range, often more - it's a seller's market as they have been out of production since 2004. Check out Mac Pro Online or We Love Macs (google them) for a good selection of "vintage" video cards and they're both reliable.

ADC was a bad idea anyway.

NO! Don't buy that card unless you know how to "flash PROMs" and have all the correct files and hardware to do so. Best to stick with video cards that say "Mac OS X" right on the box. Please check out the web stores I referred to - if they still ship to Canada (stupid Yanks!(apologies to my not-so-stupid Yankee brother-in-law)), they're your best bet.

Yeah, I guess they are a bit pricey - the prices seem to have gone UP!? "Vintage" video cards? Apple tax?

I remember paying ~$50-60 for a 5200-based video card for a PC while the same card for a Mac was selling for ~$100-120. I ended up flashing the PC 5200 to a Mac version - a long, convoluted process back then, and hardly worth it, really, for such a low-priced card.

Some of the cards I've seen on eBay warn that that this must be the only card in the Mac.

I was thing of getting a PCI card to run the second monitor.
