MobileMe - US or Canada

I am thinking of buying MobileMe as I need more disk space on my web site.
Primus only offers 20 MB for residential customers and it can't be increased.
MobileMe offers 20 GB at an annual cost of $109 Can. or $99 US.

Is there any difference in the product between Can & US ?
e.g. is it on a different site ?

So why not buy at the lowest cost ?

First up, you must pay the Canadian price if you live in Canada., and you can't fool Big Apple - they know where you are! Same tech they use to keep you from joining iTunes USA, where the TV and Movie offerings are different than the Canadian iTunes' content.

Second, if you're looking for cheap web hosting, there are many, cheaper alternatives to MobileMe. See here for Ten Better Choices for web hosting. I just bought two years hosting with unlimited space/databases/bandwidth/email/ftp and a free domain registration for $72! See here:

The real value of MobileMe is in the syncing capabilities. If you have a MacBook or iPhone/iPod Touch, then MobileMe is an excellent choice - and if you need some space for web hosting and "cloud" storage (iDisk), then that's an added bonus.

Hope this helps you with your decision!

Happy Mac'ing!

Oh, I forgot to mention one of the best features of MobileMe - Find My Frickin' Phone.

This really is a great feature, it is so great that Apple is about to announce that anyone with an iOS device and the new iOS 4.2 update can sign up to a free, limited version of MobileMe that allows them to use that one feature ( see http://www.macrumors.com/2010/11/22/ios-4-2-to-be-released-today-find-my-iphone-now-free/ ). My oldest daughter had her brand new iPhone 4 stolen, and her deepest regret was that she had not signed up for MobileMe yet, and so could not use the feature to track down her phone. Hard lesson learned, but no other phone offers this feature, and her replacement phone was signed up to MobileMe before she left the shop with it.

Heck, I even use it in the house when I "misplace" my device.

However, with this feature becoming "free", I guess your choice of low-cost web providers will be that much easier to make!

Why not indeed? Perhaps I've been lucky, but for some years now, I've bought my MobileMe renewal online (initially from eBay (US), and most recently from Amazon.ca), each time for less than the CDN retail price. The MobileMe package just contains a code, which eBay sellers typically emailed me to avoid shipping, and which I physically obtained with my last purchase from Amazon.ca. This code is entered into the MobileMe Preference Pane, and essentially credits you for a year of MobileMe or MobileMe Family, depending on what you've bought.

My bad! I can't think of any reason that what Ben is suggesting would not work. I'm off to go shopping!

Happy Mobile Me!
