Good Afternoon
I'm not sure who to address this problem to(The small, the Big, or the Tall.)
I have a Lacie External Hardrive.
And for no reason that i know off, this window pops up and tells me that i must reformat my Drive.
What are they telling me, or should i know this.
And if not how i do i rectify it.
This just popped up in the past couple of days.
Is my drive finish or do i lose all that i have installed in the  Drive.

Don't format it until we understand the situation better.

Did you use Windows to format the disk, or OS X?

Does this message always appear? If not, the next time you can connect the disk successfully, copy your data from the drive and do the format.

What model of LaCie Drive is it?
Does it appear on your desktop now?
Does the message pop-up while you are using Safari or FireFox, i.e. does it only appear when you are using a web browser?

Good Morning Dan and z-mac
I have check the Hardrive but there is no Model Number on the drive.
I cannot even find a Serial Number.
The information that i am providing are written on the original box it came with the Drive.
I Quote:

Furthermore
When i open it on the Desktop it gives me the following message.
I Quote:
The disk LACIE is not repairable by this Computer
It is being made available to you with limited functionality.
You must backup your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.


PS. I did not buy this Hardrive at the Neighbourhood Store.
I actually bought it directly from the Lacie people.

So the file system is FAT32 (the only file system that both OSs can alter).

When you plug in this disk, you should do as the message says: copy all the data you need over to the Mac.

If you never use this disk with a Windows PC, then you can format it. 

That's my advice.

Good evening z-mac
I have never used this Drive but for only a Mac.
But i will transfer all the file that i have in that disk onto another disk
I then will get back to you as to how to format the disk.

Yes, you need to re-format your drive. Here's how.

Open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

Choose your LaCie Drive from the list, not the indented portion beneath the Drive's name, i.e the volume or partition contained by the drive.

Choose Macintosh OS Extended from the Format menu, and supply a name for your Drive - Untitled is not very imaginative!

It should look like this (sort of - your drives names will be different):



Take a deep breath and then click the Erase button - bottom right corner - see it?

You will get this message from Disk Utility:



You did copy everything off the disk, right? Okay, then, click Erase.

The Erase should only take a minute or two, then, Bob's your Uncle (well, maybe not), and the LaCie is now a bona fide Mac disk!

Strangely, older LaCie model owner's using Snow Leopard are all recommended to do this, In case anyone reading this is experiencing difficulties with their older LaCie model, try this procedure.

I am on the verge of transfering all that is on the Lacie, and as soon as i can complete this i will
erase the Disk.

I' m Back
I got that from Swarznegger (I'm not even sure that's way it is spelled )
But back to business.
I transferred all the files that i had in Lacie.
I then, after following instrustions erased.
Now my disk is complety empty.
Do i transfer the existing files that i had back in the Harddrive.

Yes, you can use your disk normally and should not see those nasty messages ever again!
