Make all folder the same as this one

Hi- Is there some way I can have folders open sorted by 'kind' rather than alphabetically by name?   I know I can do this on a folder by folder basis by clicking on the title 'Kind' in the window or using the Quick Action/Arrange By.Kind but it only applies to that folder and I'm back to an alpha by name presentation next time I open it.   Old windows had a feature where you checked 'make all folders like this one'.   That's what I'm looking for.

I just recently bought my MacBook Pro and I keep work on a USB stick that I need to use on several windows machines as well.  It makes it hard to find files quickly because the presentation of files and folders is different on the Mac.

I apologize if this is obvious to people but I couldn't find it goofing around, in the MacBook manual, Finder Help files or with a search on this forum.

Cheers
Alec

Alec, you can try forcing some default behaviour when Folder windows open, including that the files within be sorted by Kind.

  • open any Folder window, then
  • press Command-2 (or select View -> As List)
  • click on the Kind column header to Sort-by-Kind
  • press Command-J (or select View -> Show View Options)
  • Click the 'Use as Defaults' at the bottom of the dialog window
P.S. This default setting will be overwritten in any Folder windows where you've manually Set View Options.
