Wow, what an anticlimax. We finally get the iPhone after all this time and ... pffffft ... it's a dud. I can't believe that, here, in the centre of Mactivity, no one has piped up claiming bragging/bitching rights to their new iPhone! I guess a bit of the shine has gone off the old Apple, eh? Must be the Rogers' polish. The launch was as big a failure as Apple has had in the last few years, but the press seem reluctant to report it.... aah, the hero stumbles...

Okay, let's kick over this hive and see if there's any bees inside...

Do you think that the fact that Rogers owns most of the major media outlets has prevented the bad news that is the Canadian iPhone story from being properly reported?

There.

IMHO, its the CRTC that needs to be taken to task, not the so-called providers. Correct me if I'm totally off base here, I believe the CRTC has NEVER ruled against BELL. Rogers has had to kowtow to them once or twice - but that was probably at Bell's behest, to be quite cynical.

I find it quite illustrative that Canada has gone from being world-leaders in telecommunications in the 80s to this sad state of affairs. Deregulation and competition worked in the US, but it has not worked here. Now, instead of one greedy, slow-to-move company, we have two. The fact that ONLY Rogers has GSM gives them a de facto monopoly anyway. Maybe after the new GSM provider sweeps in in two years... what? Rogers only has three-year plans? Hmmmmmm, conspiracy anyone?

OK, so go get a roaming Sprint phone in Ogdensburg - I hear it's just as cheap because they have free roaming in North America. Or, keep your currently-already-too-expensive Rogers phone and buy a Touch. Or, cave now in hopes that things will change... good luck with that strategy!

Tongue-partway-in-cheek,

Happy Mac'ing

Or join the army and go to Afghanistan? The Independent reports that the iPhone has been adopted by soldiers as a tool for checking identities.

EXCERPT:
Apple's iPods and iPhones, symbols of a modern urban lifestyle, are now in use in a very different setting – the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan. They are, say the US forces, ideal for the age of "network centric warfare", relatively easy to use, safe with secure software, and far cheaper than manufacturing a military version.

Join the Canadian Army - get a free iPhone!!!

Sorry, my tongue is still stuck partway in my cheek. Actually, the iPhone has become a great product, it's Rogers and Bell that still get my undivided ranting - nothing's changed there!

And anything they can give our people over there a leg up with is A-OK with me!
