Hi, I have a G3 powerbook for sale.  Both hardrive (6 GB) and CD/DVD player were replaced about 2 years ago, and the notebook has been stored for the most part ever since.  Needs a battery, that's all.

Latest Classic 9.2.2 OS.  Some software, like Photoshop, installed.

Well looked after machine at a bargain price: $250.00

Looks like I'm up a creek.  This machine has never failed me in 5 years.  Today, I go to power up to check the system config to obtain better specs--and nothing happens! No boot, no sign of power.  Very disappointing.

More to the point, does anyone whether the machine now has any value at all.  I can't see spending money to discover what's wrong or repair.  Any suggestions?

you can bring it to the mac group , ( www.themacgroup.ca )  for an assesment if you are so inclined I believe , it is 45$ , but any replacement parts would be expensive , Offer it up for parts or donate it to a fixer upper , depending on the model , I might take it ,  although that was not my intial intention . So you powered it up with a power adapter not the battery , and nothing ? , not sure , The choice is yours .

Yes, just attached the fancy Mac power adapter, and-- "no go"!  I'm still flabbergasted.  I've always considered it a great little machine.  I have iMacs that have been running since 1998.

Anyway, I would like to find a way of determining what's up without investing more moola--if possible.

Wow, you guys are great.  It's too late to monkey with this tonight--but I'll give it a shot tomorrow.  Thanks again.

Whoops, does anyone know how to remove the battery when the Powerbook is dead?  I'm not very hardware literate.

Okay, battery is out.  But looks like the backup battery may have to be changed.  B.T.W. from label on the bottom, this machine is a Powerbook (Firewire).  M7572.  400 Mhz./1 MB cache/64 MB/10 GB HD/8 MB video/DVD.

Okay, new PRAM battery has been ordered from Mac Group.  It costs 59.95 plus tax.  So will have to adjust price of unit slightly.  B.T.W. main batteries are still available for this unit, $189.95/
