Good Morning to all
You know i like this Website very much.
For a lot of people have help me, and i am grateful for that.
But you know, how scary it is that you are afraid to ask some certain question,
and to be told that no you cannot ask this question, but then again if i do not ask i will never know.
This was quoted to me by someone from this Website.
The following is the truth and anyone is  more than welcome to contest it.
I have on my street about 10 little ones and i lend to the Parents, only Children movies ,
The problem is that i of course download Movies, but i can only download them in AVI FORMAT.
Is there a Software that would allow me to convert the Movies to a Format that would allow all the Parents
to be able to play the Movies on there DVD Player, for some Parents tell me it will not play on there DVD Player.
If you come back and tell me that no, WE cannot help you, i will definetly  understand.
And it will not change my attitude toward this Website.
So, is there a Software that will allow me to do what i have describe in the above.
Thank you one more time for your help
If you stop by i will give you a Coffee
TODAY  IS  THE  OLDEST  YOU'VE  EVER  BEEN, YET  THE YOUNGEST  YOU'LL  EVER  BE, SO  ENJOY  THIS  DAY WHILE  IT  LASTS.

Comment: Have we lost an experience Person (Zmac)

Hi Plume,

To assure everyone can read your home-made disks, just make sure you have selected "Video" in the leftmost pane of the main Toast window, it's the middle tab, and you should be presented with a list under the heading "Video", which begins Video CD, Super Video CD, DVD-Video, etc.. You should pick DVD-Video, then drag-and-drop your AVI files on the right hand side of the window. That, basically, is it - press the red record button and insert a DVD and Bob will soon be your Uncle.

I very much appreciate your kind offer of adoption, and I'm sorry I didn't respond right away, but I checked with my parents and wife and kids and they all said NO - I have to keep their computers running too!

And hey, you're right, where is Zmac? I miss his witty repartee and Linux-fanboi ravings... (there's the bait, let's see if he bites!).

Anyway, good luck with Toast, let us know if it gives you any trouble...

Good Evening
Thank you, thank you, Thank you, for responding
I surely was under the impression that everybody had given up on me.
And thank again for your consideration for Adoption. (The offer is always open).
Some people will surely think that i am crazy, but i really do not care.
I will definetly try your suggestion.
And i will post how successful i was.
And please if you come by the house do not hesitate to stop.
I do make very good instant coffee.
And i am glad that you are an open minded person.
And we sure as heck do not want to lose you.
You are a very valuable person to all of us, and everyone will agree.
I will get back to you as how i have progressed.
As for your Better Half and Children they are very Lucky
Say hello to your Parents for me.
Make sure you give them all a hug for me, they are precious.
Have a very, very good evening

Good Morning to all the People which are interested in my problem.
For my interest may be your's too.
Good Morning Dan.
I followed your instruction as you prescribed and i then went across the street where i knew
she was having problems playing the other Disk.
My concern is that the day that you gave the instructions, i loaded a disk with a Movie
which was 1.35g and  that was around 3:30 P.M..
The disk was still burning the following day at 8:A.M.
Nevertheless i am not complaining as i'm still waiting for the Lady across the street to get back to me and tell me that it worked.
So as of now i'm on hold.
But i started a disk just before these comments with Popcorn
I added 4 Movies on this disk and it is functioning, i do not how long it will take to
To finish the BURN.
I have a refund coming from the goverment and i am strongly thinking of buying myself
a new Computer.                                                                                                                      Any suggestions is welcomed????????????????
Stay posted for the next Chapter.
Don't give up on me.
At 79 you are not as sharp as i was when i was 29.
So any information is always welcomed .
Hope you all have a very good day
                                                      And i really mean that
And you'se are all invited to my Funeral.
                                                               Have fun
That of course is not for another ten years
Did you think you where going to get rid of me that easy
                                                                    Plume

Hi Plume,

Did I forget to mention the conversion process can be quite time-consuming? The new iMacs with quad-cores are the fastest video converters, if that's what you're looking for.

Video conversion can be a hefty chore for any computer, and there are tradeoffs you can make to increase speed, like lowering the resolution or quality of the final product. Toast has a slider that goes from "Speed" to "Quality", and behind that, some advanced settings. Go for speed first, and yes, for quality, burning overnight is good strategy.

Having said all that, that does seem like a l-o-o-o-n-n-n-g-g-g burn. Two things that may help.

1) Install Perian - the "Swiss Army knife for Quicktime", if you haven't already (www.perian.org). This may speed up or enable more formats.
2) If your friend has a player that is divX-compatible (should be stamped on the machine somewhere, or hidden in the specs), you can burn divX disks - if the avi files contain divX-encoded video, then no conversion is required and the burn goes waaaaay quicker. Doesn't help much if:
a) the files are not divx-encoded, or
b) your friend's DVD player can't read divX disks.

Here's a slightly modified procedure if you wish to try the divX option:

  • Choose Divx as the format in the Video window instead of DVD video.

And yes, you can drag multiple files to one disk, so long as they all fit.

That's it! Good Luck, and

Happy Mac'ing!

Good evening to all
I have a problem again (Hope you noticed i said again).
When i use Toast i now have a window that opens and tells me the following.

(You are to create a Disc with PAL
and NTSC content.
Discs with mixed content may not play on all Players).

Well the Disc does play, but the voice does not match the
words coming out of their mouths.
So how do i eliminate the PAL or NTSC, or the one that needs to be eliminated  so that i use only the one that i need.
Thank you again for your interest
                                                     Plume

Dan Millar

Hi Plume,

You will almost always want to encode NTSC (National Television System Committee), so if you try to add a PAL(Phase Alternating Line) file to an NTSC disc, you'll have problems, and won't be able to play the PAL file at all on standard NTSC players. Because of the 50/60 hz disparity between North America and European power sytems, NTSC(525 lines@60Hz) is the North American broadcast standard, while PAL(625 lines@50Hz) is the European standard. All your standard analog video equipment is NTSC and cannot play/display PAL formats. Our computers, on the other hand, don't really care about theses formats as they both get converted before playing.

So, to play on standard North American DVDs and TVs, you need NTSC - if you are sending discs to someone "back home"(Europe, etc.), encode them as PAL. For use on a computer - it doesn't really matter.

Happy Mac'ing!!!

Good Afternoon to all
Thank you for the information. so far i have  some of the disks that i have burnt with
DVD Video.
I have brought them to some of the Mothers that the AVI would not play.
They have since got back to me to let me know that Disk are now functionning
on their TV.
I have a lot of happy Mothers.
Thank you Dan for the Information, you have been very helpful.
The Mothers have found something that is enjoyable, for
the Elections are enough to discourage anyone.
                                     Have a good day Dan
