File Converters

Justa quick question for all you knowledgable mac users out there.  I am looking for a file converter to change all my .Avi  to Mpeg or a quicktime file so i can burn them.  i have tried everything possible that i know of, even trying to change the format of the avi's in FCP, sorry im not going to wait 47 hours fo rit to render.. or if anyone knows a way i can burn them with out converting them idvd doesnt work, either does DVDstudio pro 4 atleast not for me.  so if anyone has any ideas..PLease share :)

That having been said, the best tool for converting AVIs to MPEGs is TMPGEnc and the second best tool is VideoDub. Both are PC only, but I have run them under Virtual PC. On an average PC, TMPGEnc can convert AVI to MPEG in real time. Your mileage under VPC will vary.
