apple multiple scan 17 display to a B&W g3 running 10.2 - no display:-(

Objective:  Connecting an apple multiple scan 17 display to a B&W g3 rev b running 10.2.
Problem:  Display just not displaying - powers on, count to two, powers off and then tries again a couple of time.
Test:  display works when connected to a 7200 and video card/machine worked fine when connected to a generic vga display.
Mac to vga adapter is not tested and I do not know how to test this adapter.

Any Ideas?
