iPod repair

Hi
I have an 20G 4G iPod and I think the hard drive is dying on it.  It tries to sync the music from my Mac and it stalls at various times.  I've tried it on multiple Macs too, so it's not just the one.  I've enterred into diagnostic mode and everything passes.  But when it does stall, and if I place the unit close to my ear, I can hear it clicking as it retries to write to the same sector over and over again.  Does anyone know where I can get this fixed?

Dan... is your ipod still in warrenty ?

if it's still in warrenty then the first option is obvious...apple (depot.info.apple.com/ipod). From the way you are mentioning this i have a feeling you are out of warrenty in which case there is really nothing you can do :(  unfortunitly there are no apple techs that work on ipod. unfortunitly they just get sent back to the factory, and i wouldn't trust some joe off the street that says he can replace the HDD.

i have seen some online websites where you send them the ipod and they fix it for you for a price, you can do the same thing with apple aswell

or you can just buy a new ipod...sorry to hear about your luck

Unfortunately, as already commented, if your iPod is out of warranty, then it's usually not cost-effective to send it away for repairs. But if you're curious as to what a hard-drive swap-out on 20GB 4th generation iPod involves, here's a great pic-by-pic disassembly and repair posting:
