Greetings

As many of you know, the software and hardware used to run MUGOO-talk are quite old. For those with a technical bent, the server is a G4-400 running OS 9 with ListSTAR mailing list manager and SIMS mail server. Neither ListSTAR nor SIMS have been ported to OS X and they do not run reliably in classic mode. Keeping this system running is become more of a burden and upgrading to OS X would mean finding a substitute for the software.

Current plans are to migrate to a different mail server (SurgeMail) that has an integrated mailing list manager. It is a commercial (not free!) product with excellent features and support. Using open-source free software is a possibility, but the feature set and support that come with SurgeMail make it a better choice.

The $64 question is: why keep MUGOO-talk at all? Traffic has been very low and many more people are using this message board than MUGOO-talk. The message board has lots of great features including archiving and searching and you can even set a watch on particular threads to get an email notice if someone replies. If people want to have a "technical talk" forum (to replace MUGOO-talk) it can be added in a few minutes. Currently there is only a main forum and an archive forum, but it seems to be working just fine.

Any comments or thoughts???

The use of these facilities has always been free for MUGOO, donated by Eton Systems.

I think you're right, Neil.
I think any of the questions that are normally posted to the MUGOO-talk could be posted here.
The list has seemed very quiet, though it has been the summertime.
And with the personal message feature of the this board, you can still keep your email private/exchange personal info as needed without the web-spiders ripping it.
I personally have enjoyed the notification feature.
Thanks for setting it up.
And I won't miss MUGOO-talk.
