On a Pc we're always updating drivers for everything. Do I need to do so with a Mac. I have a dvd disc that I'm trying to read but can't. The person who sent it to me said I may need to update the dvd drivers..?
(Using an Imac G5, Panther)

Hi,

I've never really seen any DVD driver updates for Macs... (Please correct me if I'm wrong)  I think Apple includes the software drivers within their software updates... The drivers for the drive itself usually don't get often very often... The only updates that come to mind are the firmware updates for DVD-RW .. i.e Pioneer Drives...

Cheers

Thanks
I did find, using Google, some drivers which seemed to be for the dvd unit (Pioneer) in Imacs but after downloading, they wouldn't install, so I'm going to leave it at that.

The Pioneer drives are OEM - Apple modified so the Pioneer update will NOT work - DON'T use it even if you can! Simply check the disk on another computer - more likely its a bad burn or damaged in some way. Macs can read ANY DVD data format, but do have problems with Level 3 Joliet disks. I use a Mac running OS9 and a shareware product called Joliet Volume Access to access these.
