Airport express itunes problem

Using my AE to play music on my MB (running OS 10.5) Itunes selection, I find it almost useless. The signal keeps cutting on and off continuously, even when my MB is just a few feet away from the AE,which is just plugged into the wall outlet in the dining room, not on the ethernet network on anything else. Also,if the light on the AE is green at night, in the morning it's amber and I have to unplug it to reset it. Is this normal?
Any advice?

re: poor reception
What about using the Airport Utility.app to try changing the channel on
your Airport Express.  I believe there are something like 11 possible selections.
I think 802.11b uses the same 2.4GHz frequency as (some/most) cordless phones
     - and hence there's the possibility of interference.

re: Airport Express LED light turning green, and then overnight turning yellow.
Normally the light turns green when the Airport Express has successfully established
an Internet connection -- so I'm not surprised it's yellow in the morning. What puzzles
me is why it ever turns green, if there's nothing plugged into the Ethernet port.
Can the Airport Utility.app just turn off the 'Internet' side of things in the Airport Express?

I use an Airport Express plugged into a Bell DSL modem and a shelf stereo system, and I never get any audio drops.

good luck,
