I have a Canon MP130 (3 in 1) printer which "was" on my system till it disappeared today  .  I've read all the notes in the supporting documents and have gone to System Preferences, Printers and Faxs and tried to re-enter the printer name there to make it default but to no avail.  I cannot "type" or "add" the Canon anywhere.....I have a Mac G5 OS X version 10.4.9. Can anyone help please ?

Sounds like you just need to reinstall the software - probably a good idea since the Canon software appears to have been updated quite recently - May 2007. Normally, you should install/uninstall printers with the Printer Setup Utility located in your Applications/Utilities folder BUT: Multifunction(MF) devices are NOT just printers - so HP, Canon and other MF manufacturers almost always supply their own "suite" of applications to handle all the various functions. In the past, this has been an iffy proposition, but things just keep geting better and this is a good reason to keep these multifunction devices up to date. Generally you don't have to uninstall beforre-installing so just go ahead to Canons website and download the latest installers and install - I had no trouble finding them. Good Luck!

thanks Dan,

....BUT....I have gone to the Canon Download page and there are 4 for the MP130 but I cannot find the magic words on the pages i.,e. "dowbnload"...it simply says what is available....Am I not at the right place ?  i.e. Canon driver downloads.

Thanks

Try this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=10442

Click on the words in Red - "Drivers/Software". A window should pop up where you can select the printr driver, scanner driver, MP Navigator and Easy Layout Print. You have to do each one seperately. You'll end up with four ".dmg" files where each contains one of the four parts. Expand the dmg files by double-clicking them and follow the instructions. Hopefully this will solve your issue.

thank you one and all.....I finally reached the folks with the answer - - -the printer is dead and not worth replacing.....

So I checked my papers on the purchase at Staples and Lo and Behold I had "bought" a replacement plan (two years ago) and so the good people there just refunded me the full amount of the MP130 and I replaced it with an MP510 which works just fine.

So thanks for the help and suggestions made with regards to the MP130.
