My MacIntosh  LCIII (purchased in 1993) opens with a blank screen ...except for a picture of a disk with a "?"  inscribed within it. .  It appears to not be able to locate a Hard Drive. My  SYSTEM TOOL DISK  does not find the drive to even test it.  Does anyone know how to retrieve the data on the drive and to transfer it to some other computer somewhere so that I could use the data again?  Does anyone know of a technicien who could repair this computer with old parts?  ( They appear to be no longer through Apple suppliers).  I really love this computer...( I'm very limited in my computer skills,  I am retired and do not need another MAC with all the recent improvements made by APPLE.)  Any suggestions?

Have you talked with someone at The Mac Group. in Ottawa 950 Gladstone, www.themacgroup.ca.  I know they deal with a lot of old Mac hardware.
They may suggest a "data house" (a place that specializes in retrieving data off dead drives).  It could cost more than the price of a new computer to do it.  I've got an old LCII the drive is still working on it.  I'd be willing to sell for parts cheep.  I'd have to check if they were compatible.  You can find lots of data houses on the internet.  There are a few in Ottawa but you may be better to send it to someone who specializes in Mac.
