Title: iTunes question
Post by: Peter_C on October 08, 2006, 11:17:15 AM
Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I figured it's worth a try.

I've got an iTunes problem. I checked Apple's iTunes site, but had no luck tracking down an answer.

My iTunes library is active on (1) my iPod, (2) my laptop and (3) my desktop. Over the past year, the drive in the laptop died and I re-loaded the software on my desktop. Now I've reached the maximum of 5 activations allowed.

Is there any way to de-activate a system from my iTunes account when the system doesn't exist anymore?

I should have known better and deactivated the desktop before the re-load, but there must be some procedure I can follow because the dead drive was beyond my control.

I thank you in advance for tour time.

Hi Peter,

No longer having access to the computer on which you want to deactivate your iTunes license must happen fairly regularly to folks who have the misfortune to have their computer fail, or be stolen. I'd contact the iTunes Store support staff:

best of luck,

PS. If all else fails, (and you're an ex-actor from a Star Trek series), then there's always the option of sending an email to Steve Jobs, as Wil Wheaton did:
Apple gave me back all my lost music, free of charge
