Since all I get from this PowerPc 7300/180 is a "blinking ?".
OS 8.5, Disk Repair and Drive Set-up all can't find the Hard Disk.
Thanks,
jp
The 12x CD ROM in the 7300 is SCSI interface.
I couldn't verify for sure whether the 5200's CD ROM is SCSI or IDE, but the technical info .pdf I downloaded seems to indicate that there is an internal SCSI bus. "A combination of up to seven internal and external SCSI devices can be used"
Therefore, you should be able to move the 12x CD ROM over to the 5200.
You have to set up the SCSI ID, etc, of course.

Thanks Mike,
I appreciate you getting back to me so quickly.
Follow-up question:
If I replace the existing (4X) 5200 CD drive with the (12X) 7300 CD drive do I still have to "set up the SCSI ID?
jp
Yes, you would have to set the SCSI ID on a SCSI device such that it doesn't conflict with the other SCSI devices in your computer. Before the installation, I would go to Apple System Profiler under the Apple Menu, and check out the drives installed. It will say what the SCSI ID is of the devices are. You can set your 7300's CD ROM to the same ID as the drive you are removing, or if it doesn't conflict, leave it as it is. I don't think you will have to worry about the termination for the drive, in this case.
If you google your drive's serial number, or go to the manufacturer's website, they will probably have a manual/document on where/how to set the SCSI ID. On CD-ROMs, I'm pretty confident it's on the same end that the power and ribbon cables are attached. The ID could be set usually by placing jumpers on the pins and adding up the numbers printed on the case above the pins. I believe it's best not to use 0 or 7, which are often used for the Mac itself and the primary HD (though I think the HD in this case is an IDE drive...)

Mike,
Thanks for all that info. I'm well on the way.
