Title: Please help, my PowerBook (Ti G4) HD is dead :(((
Post by: NickB on February 26, 2005, 12:37:06 AM
I don't know what happened... all of a sudden, my PB restarted and I was  unable to boot. Missing folder appeared and the only way I managed to get the OS up was from my FireWire drive. When I boot from FW, my internal HD is invisible :(

Ugh, I don't know what's wrong. It could be either HD or HD controller.

I'm don't want to lose any of my data... what should I do?

Please help,

Nick

Sounds like your hard drive is failing you. If you have a copy of TechTool Pro, it might be able to tell you whether it is a hardware problem.I'd also try running Diskwarrior. Mind you, this would only work if your HD was visible.Still worth a try though.Drive might show up again.
Not sure what your operating system is, but I was running OS 9.2.2, and the same thing happened to me. Turns out my hard drive was on it's way out.

TiBook hard drives aren't difficult to replace. A new disk should run you between 100 & 200 dollars.
