I have some problems making my airport extreme card get recognition from my Wiireless Airport Express modem - After several attempts I decided to call Bell Sympatico's suppport, but all they told me is that they do not support wireless modems other than Sympatico ones.... This is some heavy duty BS. Does any one know how I can fix this problem without having to switch network providers?
Thanx
I was with Sympatico high-speed for some time. Pages would hang but worst of all, I would lose access during peak periods of the day when traffic was heaviest. Calls to their support line would always return the same conclusion, i.e. the connection was fine, that it had to be my system. But there was no logical reason for my system to be connected one moment and not the next. I got fed-up and switched to cable and have had few interruptions since. My conclusion is that Sympatico has more subscribers than they can service and so they share access between users by disconnecting some and shifting bandwidth to others users on a rotating basis. I could be wrong but this what I believe. They would never admit this of course. They also began to jack-up the price. I dropped them at $50/month, plus I had no choice but to rent their modem which cost me another $10/month. Ma Bell is not competitive.
As for support, my daughter and friend worked for Sympatico and I know they provide only a few hours of Mac training to their techs, so they are not the most savvy of people to help you troubleshoot problems that might be related to your operating system or Mac software.
They also treat their call centre staff, those in accounting at any rate, like minions, third-world labour practices.
Dear Mac Addition,
I use Bell Sympatico High-speed with an Airport Express, and before that the original (Graphite) Airport. Whether Bell or Rogers, if the underlying service is working, there should be no problem adding a wireless basestation. But if the underlying service is not working, it's best to return to a directly-attached computer until they fix it, to avoid any finger-pointing on their part. (And yeah, that's usually not an enjoyable experience.) Assuming, direct computer connection is working fine with your DSL, how far are you able to get when you substitute in your Airport Express, before you have problems?
best,
...ben
I am using an original Airport in an older ibook, and Bell Sympatico Lite. After weeks of frustration in getting to work, ( no help from Bell), I have it working and have had no problems or issues with it since (2 years).
