I've been having trouble getting Yahoo Messenger to work on my iMac. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
What happens is that when I start the Yahoo Messenger client v2.5.3, it appears to come up fine. However, if I attempt to send a message to someone, or someone else attempts to send me a message, it does not get through. What i notice is that if I stop and start the messenger program, it occasionaly will start working. This is very strange!
I'm connecting the to the internet using the airport card in my iMac G5 computer, which goes to my Linksys router.
I tried using another client called "Adium" and observed the exact same symptoms.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I suggest you re-install the application. Trash the preferences files and start over again.
