At the start of the meeting, Neil and Ferris paid tribute to Kouchi Matsumoto, our vice-president's (Lynda Matsumoto) late husband, who died in a traffic accident on May 26, 2013. His obituary appears at http://www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com/en/families-in-our-care/matsumoto . Members wishing to do so should send contributions in his memory to Physicians for Global Survival https://www.gifttool.com/donations/Donate?ID=2011&AID=1899 or the Canada Pugwash Group http://www.pugwashgroup.ca/index.php/donate . The MUGOO executive extend condolences to Lynda on behalf of all MUGOO members.

Perhaps it was the humidity or heat or St. Jean Baptiste Day or the final game of the Stanley cup, but turnout was quite small. As a result we modified the presentations a bit and then left early for nachos and dessert across the street.

In the News and Views section we found out:

The WWDC crowd-sourced discussion was missing the crowd, but we did talk a fair bit about iOS 7 and where it might appear next on Apple products and how it compares to Windows 8. Everybody learned about skueomorphism http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/shortcuts/2013/jun/12/skeuomorphism-apple-ditched-ios7 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeuomorph. Neil learned how to spell it.

Ferris was then prepared to slag LeRoy's favourite weather app, Yahoo Weather https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/yahoo!-weather/id628677149?mt=8, since it didn't seem too fancy to him. However, as Laurence pointed out from the front row, there are lots of quite fancy features hidden behind its very iOS 7-like interface.

After the break, Chris showed us how friendly and convenient and cheap Zinio http://ca.zinio.com/ has made borrowing magazines from the Ottawa Public Library http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/zinio-notice.

Then it was off for snacks!
