My wife wanted me to upgrade her Macbook from 10.4 as she was getting too many error messages that her software was not at the right level for the tasks she wanted to do. I bought a DVD of Snow Leopard (10.6.3) as this seemed to be the requirement to upgrade.
But the DVD reader was not working (she never uses it).
So we booked an appointment with a "genius" at the Bayshore Apple Store to get advice on our options.
(cost to fix, cost of external DVD drive, new computer).
The lady there offered to upgrade it for us at no charge as we had already bought the DVD.
So 2.5 hours later she had:
Upgraded to 10.5 (she said it was safer this way).
Upgraded to 10.6.3
Upgraded to 10.6.8
Applied all relevant fixes from Software Update.
This service made my day.
Thanks for sharing. At the Bayshore store, an Apple employee shared with me the Apple Store philosophy very succinctly:
- The staff in front of the Genius Bar is charged with selling you Apple stuff.
- The staff behind the Genius Bar is charged with keeping you satisfied with your purchases.
