My son and budys are building a studio and have asked me to find a Macpro so if anyone has plans to sell one, let me know.

There is one 320gig drive in it right now, but it has 3 additional empty bays (one of the great things about these). Note that there is 8 gigs of RAM, plenty for almost anything.
There is no airport card in this computer (but can be added easily), I've always just networked via ethernet.
I've looked at some completed listings for similar computers on Ebay, and find that prices seem to range from $1500 to $1700 + $100 shipping depending on the amount of RAM. You can check here to see for yourself:

I'm asking $1500
Please contact Stewart: intudes@gmail.com
OK, thanks Stewart but their budget is tight so something under $1k or thereabouts is probably more in line with what they can afford..
A quad-core Mac Pro for under a thousand dollars?
A quick check around the internet says no way.
intu's price is actually below what the market is right now - that config can go for anywhere from $1500 to $1800.
Dual-core, maybe, but I couldn't find one under $1200.
If they don't mind using older software, you could easily get a couple of PMG5s for that price, and they are no slouches at audio work! What really matters are the A-D boards they use, not the CPU that matters that much, and this would allow more money for outboard gear - that's where you need to spend your money.
Best of luck with their endeavours - at least they are going down the right path!
Happy Mac'ing!
Dan
Thanks Dan.
I'll pass that on to them.
They, nor I, know all that much about the Mac Pro configs so I'm just trying to see what we can get. They have PM G5 at the moment but it doesn't run the software they plan on buying, or have already bought...
I stand corrected - my brother just told me he has seen Mac Pro quad Intels going for less than a thousand, so there may be hope after all!
I still think PowerMac G5s loaded with Logic 4/5 or ProTools are extremely powerful audio workstations though, and two of them for the price of one Mac Pro is pretty tempting...
If, as you said, they have already bought the software, then they will have to go with Mac Pros.
Wish them luck, and tell them to keep watching the Kijiji and Used Ottawa listings for deals...
Happy Mac'ing!
Dan
OK, Thanks again..
I did see a Mac Pro for under $1k last week but it was gone, I guess, within minutes, since the seller didn't reply to my queries. Yep, we'll keep on looking..
Carbon computing has a used Mac Pro listed on their website for $999.
