PAYG MVNO info:
PAYG = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prepaid_mobile_phone
MVNO = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_virtual_network_operator
http://www.prepaidmvno.com/mvno-companies/north-american-mvno-companies/canadian-mvno-companies/
NOTE that for maximum benefit from an MVNO, you need a carrier-unlocked GSM phone (one that uses a SIM card http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_Identity_Module). You can buy an unlocked iPhone directly from Apple. To be able to use the phone outside North America, it should be a quad-band phone, like the iPhone. In the USA, Verizon sells a CDMA iPhone, which does NOT use a SIM and is incompatible with all networks except Verizon.
Canadian MVNO Ztar (http://www.ztarmobile.com/) has 3 brands in Canada:
Petro Canada Mobility http://mobility.petro-canada.ca/default.aspx (my preference)
7-11 SpeakOut http://www.speakout7eleven.ca/home (second best)
Good2Go http://canada.good2gomobile.com/pick-your-plan (poorest of the three)
SpeakOut and PetroCan Mobility are virtually identical. All SpeakOut top-ups are valid for 365 days. PetroCan gives you 10% extra with a $100 top-up which is valid for 365 days. Good2Go has NO advantage other than cheaper long distance charges. Ztar will generally let you switch between services.
Cheap deals in the USA from AT&T with the GoPhone brand. Some stores will tell you they can't be used in an iPhone, but that is not true as long as the phone is unlocked.

You can even get data to work on a GoPhone plan by downloading the correct APN profile from:
http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/
To get data to work with SpeakOut or PetroCan Mobility, you need to get or create a valid APN profile using the iPhone Configuration Utility:
http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/
Lots of discussion and details can be found at:

Excellent, free app to tell you which folders and files are occupying the space on your hard drives:
Omnidisksweeper

...once you've identified a folder or file of interest, double-click in Omnidisksweeper to open the enclosing Finder window, or you can alternatively Command-delete from within Omnidisksweeper
