Title: PageMaker3.0 and PowerBook 180
Post by: KC13 on May 18, 2011, 01:53:49 PM
Hello,

I am trying to install PageMaker 3.0 on a PowerBook 180. The disks copy fine so there doesn't seem to be a disk error, but the install terminates at random during the process. The install manual says System 4.1 and Finder 5.5 is required. I have adequate memory and HD space. The System on the PB180 is 7.5.5. Any ideas?

Try copying all the disks to the hard drive as disk images, mount the disk images and install that way - much quicker and a lot less disk-swapping. You could then make reliable copies on fresh floppies as well. If you're using the original disks, they would be over twenty years old, and they may be the culprit.

If that doesn't help, I know PageMaker 5 requires System 7, and will run well on that machine.

Happy Mac'ing!

Hi Dan,

The floppies copy fine, I have tried your method without success, so I guess the search begins for PageMaker 5.0, lol!

Thank you!

I do have the disks for PM5 if you need them... I'd be willing to copy them for you if they're all functioning - I'll check and get back to you. I don't really want to sell the package, but you can "borrow" it as we've moved on to PM6 now (kidding). I have the manuals, etc., but I'm trying to keep all my original packages from the 80s/90s - maybe one day they'll be worth a few bucks, or if somebody has to resurrect old files, etc.

Let us know how it's going, and...

Happy Vintage Mac'ing!
