Hi Plume,
There can be many things causing that error. I have a few questions first though. What kind of Mac, what version of the OS, what version of Toast, and finally, is this your internal DVD drive or is it an external one?
Most obvious cause - bad media. Is this the same brand of DVD you've used with success before? Try known good media to see if the problem recurs/goes away.
Second most obvious cause - dirty/bad drive. Dirty lenses cause most read/write errors with new discs. I don't recommend using a lens cleaning disc or compressed air - lens-cleaning discs can cause physical damage to the lens or its delicate mounting, and compressed air is just as likely to blow more dirt into the lens as off of it. If the drive is a few years old and you've burnt a lot of discs, it may be time for a replacement. I'd recommend an external FW or USB2 drive as they are much cheaper than a replacement drive. The drive that is failing to write likely is still fine at reading, so it may still be used, and in fact is much handier to have two drives anyway.
There are some other issues that may cause this error, software updates, firmware updates, burning too fast - make sure "buffer underrun protection" option is on in Toast's preferences to avoid this error- and try burning at a lower speed, or doing too many things at once while burning.
Get back to us, and...
Happy Macing!
Dan

For an answer to some of your Questions.
I have a G5
AND 10.5.8 Version
I also tried to find Buffer Underrun in the preference file but could not find it
I use toast 10.0.8
I will keep you posted of my results
I do have an external and internal Burner
A good day to all
I said i would get back to you'se
I took the information that Dan had provided to me.
And the comments that he mentionned.
After anylizing the Comments i will admit that i do download a lot of programs.
And nothing last forever.
So i went to a place where they sold Electronics, and bought a Disk Cleaner.
I figured what have i got to lose.
So i passed the Disk in the burner as prescribed and it did not work.
So i decided to pass it one more time and i have been using the burner since with excellent results
I am not telling you that it as totally solved my problem.
But it as done so for the time being.
I do know that i will encounter the same problem somewhere in the future.
So i will definetly have to go and buy a new Burner.
But i have learned a lot by asking the information , so nothing is lost and a whole lot gained.
Thank you so very much Dan for sharing your Knowledge, otherwise i would have been lost.
I still have not been able to find (Buffer Underrun)
Thank you, Thank you again for your help

Hi Plume,
You can find this setting in Toast under the Recorder menu. First, make sure you have the drive in question selected. You do his through the little gear icon/drive selection menu at the bottom of the main Toast window. Then, choose "Recorder Settings" under the Recorder menu. Next, in the Recorder Settings window that has now opened, choose the Advanced tab at the top of the window. You can now see the "Enable Buffer Underrun Protection" checkbox - it should be checked "on".
Glad too hear it was most likely just a dirty lens. I still don't recommend you use the lens cleaner any more than necessary, i.e. only when the drive seems to be failing consistently, as the lens assemblies are very fragile, and a single scratch will usually render the lens useless.
Happy Mac'ing!
Dan
Thank you again Dan
I hope all the people asking question or help appreciate you as i do.
I followed your instructions and found the buffer underrun, and it was clicked on.
And i do not intend to keep this Burner to long.
I wiil start looking to buy another one.
Thank you again for your help.
Are you sure your not up for Adoption.
Hope someday i can return all that you do for us.
Thank you again
Have a great night
