Title: Configuring Thunderbird 3 on OS X 10.6.3
Post by: centurion on April 23, 2010, 06:11:59 AM
Greetings and salutations: I have been using Thunderbird 2 on an Imac with OS 10.6.3 with no problems. Then I upgraded to Thunderbird 3.  Sympatico does not support Thunderbird and I believe they have changed their configuration.  I can access the net, get mail, but can not send mail. I also get frequent time outs. Can anyone tell me how to configure System preferences - Network, and any other things needing reset. Please keep instructions simple.  Any help would be appreciated.

Check this page for the proper settings for sympatico mail:

Sympatico does allow Thundrbird clients - they just won't give you any support, nothing new for Mac users there, they still barely support Apple Mail.

ThunderBird does have an account setup wizard similar to Apple's Mail program, where all you do is enter your email address, user name, and password, and it auto-magically sets up your account, however, you may still experience problems. Check the auto-magical settings Thunderbird has made and compare them to the settings given in the reference above. Change any that differ from the described settings. My biggest problem with Sympatico mail, and I've been a Sympatico client since '94, is that they keep tweaking their settings without telling anyone, and that their SMTP service is, uh, "quirky". Sympatico will ask you for your SMTP password, even though it is stored and transmitted from your settings, if you use it too quickly after it has already been used - this is normal behaviour for Sympatico.

After nearly thirty-five years with Bell, I have solved all my phone, TV and internet problems in a brief three hours last week - I switched to Rogers, but that's a topic for another thread I think...

Happy Mac'ing!
