I have Win XP running on my Macbook (installed with Bootcamp).
I've downloaded the ISO student edition of Win 7 and burned it to a dvd but I can't get anywhere with it when booting from the disc. My multiboot program is Reffit which gives me the option of which OS to use.
Has anyone here goe this route?
Burn the ISO at the slowest speed possible.
However, note that W7 may not work well on your Mac:

OK, thanks.
I've been trying different routes of going about this for the last x amount of hours but not getting anywhere fast. Somehow my dvd burning program, RecordNow! won't let me change the burning speed. I think the first time I used it it offered me a choice of speed but after the first burn,no luck. I've done 3 other copies but none of them work when booting up. Given the choice of boot options, I get to choose the cd type but no matter what I press nothing is shown on the screen so I have to reboot. I did all the upgrades from Apple but still no luck. I installed Sun's VM Box but again I get this message:
You can't run this version of Windows. You need an installation disc that's compatible with your computer.
My computer is a Macbook, 2.2 ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo. In BootCamps as well as VM Box I'm running Win XP. The Win7 installation I'm trying to do is the 64 bit one. I wonder if that has anything to do with it..?
Hi Guys,
I apologise if I misunderstand your message, but you say you "downloaded the ISO student edition of Win 7", which doesn't sound like you bought it. MUGOO is not the place to look for support of this type of endeavour. (Correct me if I am wrong here moderator)
Apple's support notes for the upcoming version of Boot Camp state that you need "Your own authentic copy of Microsoft Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade", and that it must be one of the "Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate" editions.
Having said that, you may be more successful installing Win 7 under a VM like Fusion, Parallels or Virtual Box, until Apple releases the upgrade for Boot Camp, which is now overdue. Reffit is not being kept up-to-date, so I wouldn't rely on it, especially for Windows 7. Also, due to EFI/core duo limitations, Win 7 booting from Boot Camp/reffit will not be possible on the following Intel Macs:
iMac (17-inch, Early 2006)
iMac (17-inch, Late 2006)
iMac (20-inch, Early 2006)
iMac (20-inch, Late 2006)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2006)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2006)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2006)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2006)
Mac Pro (Mid 2006, Intel Xeon Dual-core 2.66GHz or 3GHz)
I believe the early core duo/single minis are also excluded from this functionality.
Try using a legit copy of Win 7 when Apple releases their Boot Camp update, and we'll be here for you!
Happy Mac'ing,
Dan
Nope, I bought this from MS via Digital River, special student price $39. It's the way MS has it set up where you need to download either the exe file or ISO according to your needs.
Okay, sorry that I mistook your methods. Game on!
Dan
Probably be wise not to try the 64-bit route with Boot Camp unless you have one of the following Macs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008) and later
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008) and later
Mac Pro (Early 2008) and later
iMac (21.5 inch, Late 2009)
iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)
iMac (27-inch, Quad Core, Late 2009)
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009)
These Macs have UEFI 2.0, and are also the only Macs you should/could/would use for a 64-bit install of Vista.
A 32-bit install should "function", just use the drivers from the Leopard version of Boot Camp and all should be well.
Happy Mac'ing!
Dan

Unless I am sadly mistaken, MS allows you to run most of their OSes on a trial basis for at least 30 days. In some cases the trials extended to 90 days. At that point, the OS requires online activation with a serial number.
So I don't see anything wrong with this thread.
Duly noted - my bad. I knew the beta was a download, didn't know you could try/buy Windows that way. Thanks to all, I am even thinking of trying it out for 7!

No Problem Dan. Actually I don't think I've ever heard of an ISO before this.
Well, lots of new information here. I've been running Bootcamp on my Feb 2008 MB and trying to install Win 7 on it as a trial for my daughter's NEW MB. So, it may work on hers after all from the list you posted here. I'll be back...
