Title: Startup sound
Post by: David on December 28, 2009, 02:43:29 PM
Hi,

...and a happy holiday season to one and all.  Ours was marred by some bad health news, but there's no sense complaining.  Anyhow, that being the case, my days and nights are somewhat screwed up, and I might want to use the computer while my wife is asleep in the next room.  Rather than make the computer sleep, I would turn it off.  Is there a way to change the setting so that it does not blare out the fact that it is being turned on?

Thanks.

David.

A quick and dirty method is to just plug in a pair of earphones into the audio out port.

But I never shut down the computer - I just use the Energy Saver Preference Pane to set the drive, display, and computer sleep settings. When you wake the computer from sleep, it won't make a startup sound.
