Title: Is a new modem necessary for iMac?
Post by: David on September 24, 2009, 08:49:13 AM
Two questions, if I may:

With Sympatico, I am using a new Bell wireless modem to connect to the internet, there being no internal modem for some logical reason I can't understand.  If anyone has a similar setup, I'd be pleased to know if it is possible to fax through that modem.  When previously using the PC, which had an internal modem, I could do so through another "protected" telephone jack, or using the same one with a double connector, one protected and the other not, but not through the older Bell modem.

So, the question is do I have to purchase another external modem in order to fax?  Such unexpected extra expenses, such as a new printer and new scanner, seem to be accumulating, and it would be nice to be able to avoid this one if possible.

Also, I have the Bell "wireless" modem connected via an ethernet cable.  Will I have to purchase even one more wireless device to enable a truly wireless connection, or am I missing something?  So much for an uncluttered desktop.

David.

Your problem can be corrected by going to this site.  This is the best deal I could find.

If you have a Bell "wireless" modem and an iMac with a built-in Airport card you can set it up to work wirelessly (no ethernet cable required).
