Title: Macintosh II PRAM Battery! LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO FIND OR SOLUTION!!
Post by: mac_junkie1 on September 26, 2008, 01:15:21 AM
hey!

i picked up a mac II today and what do you know, its battery's are dead :-(!!  after some research some online battery sites still sell the 3.6V Lithiums with Leads, but some don't!!

i was wondering, if i were able to find   x2  3.6V battery locally, would i just be able to solder my own leads onto it and then install them as normal batteries??  i wanna get this beast up and running!!

hope someone can help me!
thanks
mike

little side note: nice big custom quantum drive in these things! holy shit, 40MB HD that size! man after someone see's it, they can see apple's diffrence from other stuff at the time!! :-)  nice to now have a spare big drive incase mine dies!

Just bring the old set to a Total Battery outlet, they are very good at duplicating what you have.

Mike,

Don't try soldering leads to the battery, especially a lithium battery (see the "explosive" warning?) - instead get thyself to a Source (Radio Shack) and buy a battery holder and solder that to the motherboard. Then, simply put the battery in the holder. Remember not to heat the motherboard - just the lead, and only use a tiny amount of solder - the least possible. I've done this dozens of time on old IIs, CIs, etc. and it works great - batteries are so much easier to replace this way and you don't need to find the the more specialized batteries with pigtails attached.

Happy Maci'ng!
