Title: Burner in my PowerBook G4 giving me error message when burning to DVD :S
Post by: 601 Photography on March 27, 2008, 06:40:31 PM

I am trying to burn 1.53 GB of pics onto a Sony DVD-R (4.7GB) for a client but my PowerBook G4 is giving me the following error message when I try to burn a dvd:

(Error Code 0x8002006D)

I've googled the error code and discovered it could be one of a number of issues:

1. Bad discs

2. Sensor is off and needs to be re-calibrated/cleaned with a laser lens cleaner

3. Force quite finder

I have done the laser lens cleaning and force quit finder stuff, and still it won't burn the dvds.

I have just bought a new pack of DVD-Rs (Fuji Film brand) but a friend of mine mentioned that maybe I should be using DVD+R instead. I can burn CDs no problem, but with the amount of pics and the file groupings that I have related to the pics, I would prefer giving the client 1 DVD disc instead of 4 or 5 CDs.

I haven't opened the Fuji DVD-Rs yet incase someone here can help me out and tell me to return the unopened pack and exchange for DVD+R.  But I believe my Mac supports the burning of -R  -RW only? At least that's what it says in "about this mac".

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hey 601 Photo!

Okay, I'll bite. First, what model of PowerBook is it? PowerBooks didn't start shipping with DVD burners until the 867/1Ghz models, and then it was a choice of Combo or Super drive - the latter being the only type able to burn DVDs.

To verify what drive you do have, click "About this Mac" under the Apple. In the Info window that pops open, click "More Info..." button. This opens the System Profiler, and on the list on the left you will see an item called "Disc Burning". When you select it from the list, the window on the right fill up with all the specs on any CD or DVD burners in the system, including "CD-Write" and "DVD-Write" media support, i.e. -R, -RW. +R. +RW, +RW-DL, etc.

If it is a SuperDrive and not a Combo, and it burns CDs, but not DVDs, then you haven't much choice but to replace it, or easier and cheaper by far - buy/build an external DVD burner. You'd need a 5.25-inch case and a raw DVD drive that's compatible with your Mac - any Apple dealer can help you out with this part - ask for a drive that works with Apples DVD Player/Burner software.

Good luck, hope this helps - let us know your progress.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for replying and sorry for not getting back sooner.  I'm currently away from my mac, so I can't tell you exactly what model it is, but when I clicked about this mac, it supported write CD -R -RW and DVD -R -RW

I tried a different DVD brand (Fujifilm brand) and it worked fine. I reduced the amount of information being stored on it thought, just to be safe. So instead of 1 DVD the clients received 1 DVD and 2 cds.  I think I may have gotten a bad pack of Sony DVD-Rs. Which sucks cuz they weren't cheap. :(

Thanks again.
