Hi all. While uploading my music into iTunes, on my iBook G4, a Gordon Lightfoot CD refused to exit my CD/DVD drive.
I've tried all the tricks that I could find on Mac support groups (rebooting while holding down trackpad button, trying to eject using firmware, etc...) but nothing works. I can hear the drive motor working when I hit eject, but the CD will not come out. Can anyone help?
I suspect I'll have to take it to a shop to get the whole machine disassembled...if so, can you recommend a good Mac service place in central Ottawa -- aside from the Mac Group, that is, since I just had an experience with them that made me swear to never give them my business again, nor to recommend them to anyone.
Thanks!
For me, any Lightfoot CD after "Sundown" actually gets stuck in its jewel case. (o:
If something small is blocking the operation of the CD reader, you might be able to move it by turning the notebook on an angle and giving it a shake.
If all else fails and you have a set of small screwdrivers, you could open the patient yourself.
Better getting caught with Lightfoot than the Bee Gees, I suppose...;-)
I tried the shaking, plus sliding a credit card through the slot, but no dice.
I'd love to try opening the machine up myself, but am worried about doing serious damage. On the other hand, the shops are charging nearly $100/hour of labour, and say it'll take 60-90 mins.
Is it fairly foolproof to open up? Do I go in from the back, or from underneath the keyboard? Any other tips from those of you who've done it?
Thanks
Go in yourself, Dr TT.

that's one heck of a manual, z, thanx for the link.
but boy is the optical drive in deep...i might need a scrub nurse and anesthetist before cutting open the patient.
tt, have you saved Gord's Gold yet?
z-mac: with a toddler climbing over me to get to the laptop and all the screws, i couldn't chance doing the surgery myself...so i bit the bullet and paid the piper. bottom line, they freed Gord, but minutes after I get home to test it, the second CD I insert gets stuck! arg! back to the shop to get it removed again, but this time the techie says the drive won't accept cds anymore, as the gate is firmly shut.
he quoted me something like $750 for a replacement mac superdrive -- methinks i'll spend $100 on an external cd/dvd writer and never use the built-in one again. what think u?

Good plan. I'd be surprised if it costs you that much.
