Title: iMac "cleaning"
Post by: airforce on January 11, 2008, 10:59:34 AM
Hi,

I have had my iMac G5 for a little over a year now and have never "cleaned" it out except for the deletion of no longer used programs, photos, e-mails etc....I have Mac Janitor installed and run it weekly and monthly.  I have a feeling that my Mac is getting slower and slower and I suspect that I may have accumulated a whole bunch of data which should/could be deleted....

...the question is "How ?"....

...Any suggestions ?  Would appreciate your thoughts/previous knowledge on this matter - - - freebies and otherwise.

Thanks

Airforce

I use Applejack.  It's free and it has produced great improvements for me.

Which operations or applications are seeming slower to you? How much free space do you have on the disk?

Sorry about the delay...

My Cap is 233.6 GB and I have 194.6 available.  It also shows I have 430,092 files and 109,719 folders !!!!!  Is that reason to be scared ???

Slow apps for instance are going to Firefox....I can count from "1000" to sometimes "1006" after I select its icon before it actually comes up....there are a couple of others like that....is that reasonable ?  Am I so used to speed that this seems slow ?  ...

or do I need to clean up the system....I downloaded the Applejack as suggested but it stays on my desktop and won't load.

Thanks.
