Title: Help Re-Configuring Network Connection on new Mini
Post by: BruceStewart on September 21, 2007, 02:31:00 PM
Short story - Quicksilver PPC died, scavenged disks into FW enclosures, now trying to configure my ISP connection and looking for shortcut. Can I copy across prefs / config elements from my old system disk (PPC Tiger install) to my new system disk? Where can I find them? Also does my keychain on the old system hold my username/password info. I have the username written down but can't swear that the password next to it is correct! Can I copy my keychain in it's entirety, select part of it or have to forget it?

Cheers for any help provided.

You are in luck! Look in your Utility folder for a program called Migration Assistant. Start it up and choose the second of the two options - migrate from another volume (your fw drive with the previous system is attached, right?). Bob's your uncle - migrates all user settings, apps, network settings, files, etc. Caution - last time I used it to migrate from a ppc to an intel box - it migrated all the apps - even the ones that do not work on Intel boxes. Other than that it does a fantastic job. 'Nuff said.

I broke down and waded through Bell's help system to a real person who in a matter of a couple of minutes, verified who I was, verified I was a subscriber and proceeded to generate and make live a new password. Everything is all well with the world. I did use Migration Assistant to move some files but in the final analysis I've changed user names/profiles to clean things up and am letting the old me "fade away".

I love the Mini am finding Front Row a little frustrating though. My Samsung 206BW is a fantastic screen.

Cheers to all
