Title: New monitor has the jaggies
Post by: Nancy on September 13, 2007, 07:30:43 PM
Hi all,

I'm new to MUGOO.com.  I have a question about a my new Monitor.  It's a Hanns-G HW22 series (or so says the little booklet).

I can't get text to read smooth on it.  I've tried the "clocking" function (which helped a bit) and different resolutions.  Right now it's at 1680 X 1050 although it's capable of more, because when I put it higher the image gets distorted.  It's a very wide screen compared to my old one (movie screen type as compared to the old one that had a TV type proportion.)

Interestingly, I just checked the resolution to give it to you and notice that the higher resolution(s) are no longer showing up in the system preferences any more.  Hmmm.

Any ideas on getting rid of the jaggies?  I used to be reasonably proficient at troubleshooting stuff in the old system 9 or lower, but ever since X came out I've never gotten up to speed again.

Computer's a dual 867 G4 if that matters.  System is 10.2.8.  What else have I forgotten to mention?

It's frustrating to have a new spiffy monitor and a jaggier display than the old one!  I appreciate any help or ideas anyone has.

Is this your monitor? Look at the specifications:

You have to use an LCD monitor at its native resolution for the best results. If the above is your monitor, the native resolution is 1680 x 1050.

Put the refresh back to 60Hz, you've got it set too high (for an LCD).

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, that's the monitor, and I have it at 1680 X 1050.

I checked the refresh rate, and it's greyed out and reads "n/a".

What do I do?  Is this just a bad monitor for this computer?  I thought computers can handle any monitors and vice versa, especially these days.

Is there any lower resolution setting that enables the refresh rate control?

Does the Detect Displays button work?
