hello, i have a 17" apple cinema display, and i have 2 mac cubes. i bought a kvm switch to be able to use the one screen with the cubes. the problem is that the kvm switch needs a vga to plug into it. Is there an adapter i can use. it would have to be a female dvi-vga. the problem is that the standard adapters for this don't work.
Any ideas?
thanks
Patrick
Which display? You mean Apple Studio Display don't you - there is no 17" ACD. My question is - If you have a KVM switch with VGA connectors, you just need the adapter for the monitor - right? From VGA on the KVM to ????? on the end of your display cable. Is it DVI or ADC? If it's DVI, then you need a DVI female-VGAmale which are opposite to the stock Apple adapters. Searching Google gave me this on the first hi, but there's plenty more:

Whatever display you have, the connector must be a DVI-I or DVI-D connector. How can you tell which one you have? If you look at the connector you will notice a flat, blade-type pin on one side away from all the pin-style pins. If the blade has two pins above and two pins below - you have a DVI-I or DVI-A(unlikely) connector - if you see just the blade with no pins above or below, then you have a DVI-D type connector and nothing will work with that except a DVI-based KVM switch. The "A" stands for analog, and the "I" for integrated, and those four pins are your VGA signals. DVI-D("D" for digital) connectors have no such pins and do NOT support VGA connections.
If you have a display with ADC connectors, get rid of it or just use it plugged straight into your cube! The ADC-to-DVI adapter is about $200, and then you need a KVM that can handle it - another $200 or so, etc....
Hope this helps...

THANK-YOU FOR ALL THE INFO, I'M GOING TO CHECK IT ALL OUT
