Last fall I received help from SA with transferring files from my old Mac OS 8.6 to my new iMac OS 10.4.8, using an ethernet set-up. Since then I have transferred hundreds of files, and on numerous occasions. One of the perks of this system is that I can transfer files to my old computer to use its printer or fax.
But, suddenly I seem (usually) unable to complete a transfer of even a single file in the other direction, old to new. The transfer is partial (e.g., the top strip of a picture), and before it is completed, I get the following series of three error messages,
?1) ...(192.168.1.100) via TCP/IP"...the server's connection has unexpectedly closed down...
2) The selected files could not be copied because the server is no longer connected.
3) You cannot copy "Stones Concert Trip.jog onto te shared "Macintosh HD", because the server is no longer connected.
?and then after I 'OK' these three windows the connection between computers is broken. Ironically, I was able to transfer small .pict screen captures of these messages from old to new. File size, however, has not seemed to matter throughout the history of this problem, as far as I know.
Any suggestions or quick fixes would be appreciated.
Thanks,
ML
You are inviting highly speculative responses unless you describe the network, i.e. how the two computers are connected.
