Hi every one,
Any of you remember when macsnstuff had posted in the " buy and sell " that he wanted a G4, and a discussion started on what to invest in ?
Here is the thread : http://mugoo.eton.ca/smf/index.php?topic=1222.0
After macsnstuff wrote what the computer was to be used for, several of us said to buy into the latest MacPro technology, and I wrote the following,

BTW, the Quads are not the end of the Mac line, nor is the MacPro, there is more to come by the time Tiger pans out, they are already experimenting on doubling that, and it's called Quad Core "
Check this out, MacPro now in 8- Core

Yep !
I agree.
There is no OS ( Including the upcoming Cat ) or software out there to take advantage of such power " yet ", I also think that it's a simple marketing strategy from Apple to excite the buyers in the race for " More power ".
Given that we're talking in this thread about the tremendous wisdom that we evinced in another thread... ;^)
I said Apple will bilk you for every cent they can squeeze if you ride their annual Upgrade Wave.
Looking for the best deal in Apple hardware does not mean buying the latest products. It means getting a reasonable price for the computer that will do what you need for the next five years (at least).
Gigaherz and multicores are the 21st century marketer's megaherz.

I believe your wrong on that. The current MacOS will handle 8 cores - it will throw work at all processors if it has enough work. As for software, there are a few that are ready, Apple shows them off on their Mac Pro performance page. I wonder if BOINC is ready, it probably is too. It's just extra cores, as long as your software is multi-threaded, it'll take advantage of them.
Apparently there are a few problems that restrict the new 8-core Mac Pros... they do great on CPU intensive tasks, but not memory intensive tasks.
