Hello Again,
It seems I only surface when I have a problem....
My computer is an iMac purchased new last summer, but only used since October. I use Mac OS 10.4.8 and have installed upgrades of everything as they come along.
I use Entourage for email; it comes as part of Microsoft Office 2004 (it looks exactly like Outlook Express except that OE is no longer supported for Mac). Today, I was doing some housecleaning within the program; deleted a couple of names, added a couple more, revised information on others. Everything was normal (never have had any problems before), when, in the Address Book, I tried to do a search for a name that I knew was there (just too lazy to scroll for it) and received an error message: "The action could not be completed; an unknown error (4362) occurred." A help file explained that Entourage is having a problem with the Microsoft Database Daemon. I didn't understand what to do after that. So, I used the Mac OS X install disk to re-boot the computer and Verify and then Repair my hard drive which had a "minor" error with the volume header I believe. Although I am sure that repair is a good thing it did not solve the Entourage problem.
In the Entourage Address Book, sorted by name, there are about three lines that seem to be blanked out and slightly of different colour. Two of those names can be made to appear when I cursor up the list, and if i use 'Command O' to open them the contents doo appear; later they disappear again. But in one spot, contiguous to the other two, the name does not appear in this way, and instead the Error 4362 message appears when I click on that location.
I don't want to do anything drastic as I can probably use the Entourage program with just that feature not working, but it's just that whenever anything goes wrong on the computer I start to worry. And II doo like everything working. So any help would be appreciated.
BTW, although it is always hard to remember what one has been doing lately with a computer that may have a bearing on the current problem, my computer had been shut down for two days until last night. When started up I had a message for installing updates to QuickTime and iTunes which I proceeded to do, and I probably tried to fetch my email messages while that was happening. Other than that, things are all a blur, as usual.
Hope everyone is enjoying winter.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Ron
FYI, in case anyone is interested, eventually there came a message askiing me if I would like to rebuild my email program (Entourage). I chose in the affirmative, and all is well as it was restored that day....
Thanks for reading,

I just saw your message, flagged as new, never saw the original. If I had, I would have said "rebuild". I believe the trick is to hold down the command key while Entourage is opening, you then get a dialog asking if you're sure you want to rebuild. I may be mistaken about the key - I switched to Mail a while ago - it may be the shift or option key - it is documented somewhere in the help file for Entourage. Try it next time you experience Entourage weirdness.
