Post by: Jeremy on October 16, 2006, 08:09:11 PM
Hi,
I have worked in a mac world now for about a year and just bought my first new shniy Imac - sweet.

Now I have a problem trying to connect my samsung scd-5000 digi cam, they do not appear to support it. Is there a universal method I could try? I really dont want to run boot camp but do want to take adv. of the amazing video editing capabilities.

secondly, what is the recommended method of viewing windows media format (wmv) files from osx?

thanks for any help.

Hi Jeremy,

Does your video camera have a firewire port? If so, it should work in iMovie, FCE, FCP as any other Firewire DV cam.

As for playing back WMV files... see this thread :

Hope this helps.

Your cam has both Firewire (marked "IEEE1394") and USB 2.0 ports for connecting to iMovie and iPhoto respectively. You can also use your memory stick to transfer photos, but not video. iMovie must be running for you to "capture" video. It will not mount on your desktop like a memory stick. Since your camera is not officially supported you may have to "import" the video into iMove rather than "capture" it. For more info see www.apple.com.ca/support/iMovie.

For WMV stuff see www.Flip4Mac.com.

For DivX stuff see www.divx.com/divx/mac/codec/

Good luck and please let us now if your problem persists.
